Art That Inspires Me - Finding Beauty in Unexpected Places - Cuba

Throughout my years of traveling with friends and family, I've developed a deep appreciation for art in all its forms. From the masterpieces adorning European churches and chapels to unexpected artistic expressions in distant corners of the world, each experience has shaped my artistic perspective.
While I've explored much of the Mediterranean – Italy, Greece, Spain, and Portugal – one destination stands out in my memory: Cuba. During the brief window when travel restrictions were lifted, I had the privilege of experiencing Cuba's vibrant art scene. What struck me most were the intricate mosaics woven into the fabric of daily life – embellishing architecture, sidewalks, and even furniture.
One of my most memorable experiences was visiting a small artist community where local creators worked to overcome life's challenges through their art. I was particularly moved by a youth recreation center where children gathered to explore their creativity. Supporting these artists by purchasing their work wasn't just about acquiring art; it was about connecting with their stories and contributing to their journey.
As an artist, I find inspiration everywhere, though not always in obvious ways. Sometimes it's a striking color combination, an interesting shape, or a unique compositional approach that catches my eye. What I've learned is that inspiration doesn't mean imitation – it's about allowing others' creativity to spark something unique within your own artistic vision.
What fascinates me most is how different cultures and communities define and express art. Some of the most compelling pieces I've encountered might not have traditionally registered as "art" in my mind, yet they've expanded my understanding of creative expression.
I encourage everyone, whether you can visit a local gallery or travel abroad, to take time to observe and appreciate different forms of art. The way humans have expressed themselves through creativity throughout history and across cultures is truly remarkable. It's in these moments of observation and appreciation that we often find our own creative spark.
Find a way to see the good and the beauty in the world every day!
